Maddie Atherton, JD, MBA
DirectorMaddie joined our Denver office in 2021, bringing depth of experience in asset management, finance and portfolio management, and financial analysis from seven years at Merrill Lynch. In 2020, she sold her fitness business, Fit4Mom Castle Rock, to return to finance with a family focus.
Maddie was drawn to Matter’s holistic approach to wealth management, as it allows her to utilize her education and experience to support complex families. She is particularly skilled at working with multigenerational families to prepare for post-liquidity events, plan and implement generational transitions, and think through strategies that will realize their goals. Maddie gets great joy and fulfillment from helping Matter families to manage their wealth across generations, while building financial acumen and family communication skills along the way.
A graduate of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, Maddie holds a JD in corporate/commercial law and an MBA in business administration from the University of Denver. She is currently on the board of a single family office in Denver, serving on their education committee, and she’s also an active member of the Colorado Bar Association.
Maddie was a soccer player in college and now coaches varsity girls at the local high school. She loves the opportunity to mentor young women on and off the field—and stay hip to all the latest trends. A dedicated distance runner, Maddie travels to Disney World annually for the Dopey Challenge: 5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, a half marathon on Saturday, and a full marathon on Sunday. She and her husband have completed every year since the race began, earning the coveted status of “Perfectly Dopey.” Maddie and her family are also avid skiers (her oldest daughter was on skis at 18 months) and enjoy neighborhood walks with their two huge dogs, a malamute and a great dane.
