Kirby Ott, MBA
Partner, Managing Member, ShareholderKirby joined Matter in 2009 and sits in our St. Louis office. With nearly two decades of experience helping families navigate the opportunities and complexities of multigenerational wealth, he has a deep appreciation for the people-first mindset at Matter. Kirby was also drawn to our firm’s collaborative culture and believes it’s foundational to the relationships we build Matter families.
A partner and member of Matter’s board of managers, Kirby is responsible for leading the internal collaboration that integrates our service areas and ensures the families we serve have exceptional, comprehensive Matter experiences. He has deep technical expertise in investment management and portfolio construction, liquidity planning, and family communication and enjoys applying his knowledge to the Matter investment committee.
Before joining Matter, Kirby earned a finance degree from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Washington University (where he also met his lovely wife). He is passionate about connecting with and giving back to the St. Louis community and focuses his volunteer efforts on organizations that seek to improve people’s daily lives. Currently, Kirby serves on the finance and investment committees of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater St. Louis and the finance committee of College Bound.
When he’s not working, Kirby prioritizes activities that help him relax and stay present, like practicing yoga, golfing, and going for bike rides with his wife and two children. He also plays hockey (perhaps less frequently than he’d like) and enjoys traveling and simply spending with his family—which includes a German short-haired pointer, just to keep things interesting.
